Elermore Vale residents have had a win overnight with the Joint Regional Planning Panel refusing a controversial application for a mosque in the suburb.
More than 200 people attended the meeting.
Newcastle Council staff recommended the $7-million project be refused by the Joint Regional Planning Panel.
Independent studies showed the proposed development on Croudace Road would create unacceptable parking and traffic impacts.
