A mob attacked the Nasarawa State Police command?headquarters in Lafia, Nigeria with stones and bottles?in protest against the alleged disruption of the Muslim Friday (Juma?at) prayers.

An eyewitness said some mobile policemen who were?traveling along Lafia? Makurdi road, allegedly removed the barricade, which the worshippers used to close the dual carriage way forcefully and thus drew the ire of the worshippers.

Austria, Saudi Arabia Defend Religious Centre Plan

Saudi Arabia yesterday defended its plan to fund a religious dialogue centre in Vienna saying Judaism and other faiths would be represented and that it would be free from political interference.

Critics of the centre say Saudi Arabia’s austere version of Sunni Islam means it is an unsuitable country to promote religious debate.

The Israel Prisons Service (IPS) on Sunday morning began transferring Palestinian prisoners set to be released in the Gilad Schalit exchange deal to two prisons for processing.

Discrimination Criminalized in Egypt

Egypt’s ruling military has approved a law to punish discrimination after clashes between soldiers and Christians killed 25 people in the country’s worst violence since a revolt this year.

The amendment to the criminal code states a punishment of a fine no less than 30,000 Egyptian pounds (A$4920) for discrimination based on “gender, origin, language, religion or beliefs.”
