Filipino Soldiers Clash With Muslims, 18 Killed

Philippine troops battled Muslim guerrillas in a volatile southern province Tuesday in fierce fighting that killed at least 18 combatants and left 10 soldiers missing, officials said.

Regional military spokesman Lt. Col. Randolph Cabangbang said the fighting erupted at dawn Tuesday near Al-Barka town on Basilan island when troops were investigating reports of rebel incursions. Sporadic clashes continued late into the night in the remote region, he said.

21 African Sex Slaves Rescued in Malaysia

Malaysian police said they had rescued 21 Ugandan women from forced prostitution, breaking up what they called the country’s first large-scale such ring involving African victims.
