Improved Suicide Bombers Push Civilian Deaths to Record High in Afghanistan

A string of bigger and more complex suicide attacks by insurgents in Afghanistan have pushed civilian deaths to their highest level in a decade a United Nations report says.

The number of civilians killed in the conflict rose eight per cent last year to reach 3,021 – with more than three-quarters caused by attacks from the Taliban-led insurgency.

The findings that on average more than eight Afghans a day are being killed are at odds with Nato assessments that violence is falling.

A Saudi defence lawyer has asked court to summon a jinn (genie) claimed to have possessed a judge who has been arrested on corruption charges, the Saudi Arabic language daily Okaz reported on Saturday.

The Muslim community of Victoria will have a new place to worship by the end of the year.

The ground-breaking for a new mosque, Masjid AlIman, took place on the front lawn of 2218 Quadra St. Friday. The mosque has been designed by Herbert Kwan Architects of Victoria.
