The authorities in Egyptian have charged seven Coptic Christians living in the United States along with a Florida based Pastor Terry Jones with insulting Islam and inciting sectarian strife for their alleged links to an online video. Egypt has identified alleged filmmaker Nakoula Basseley Nakoula as Elia Bassili. He is believed to be Coptic Christian. Some media quoted the Egyptian authorities saying that they would approach Interpol, who in turn will contact the US Government.
“Were such a request to be received, it would be reviewed by INTERPOL’s Office of Legal Affairs to determine whether it violated Article 3 of INTERPOL’s Constitution,” stated the INTERPOL General Secretariat headquarters.
Others charged are Morris Sadek, who is believed to have posted the clip to YouTube; Morcos Aziz; Fikri Zokloma, also known as Esmat Zokloma; Nabil Bissada; Nahed Metwali; and Nader Nicola. These names have been added to Egyptian airports watch list.
Meanwhile, YouTube on Wednesday said that it has blocked the controversial video after authorities in many countries moved to block the entire network or parts of it.
