Councillor Lee Barney has arranged a meeting on Thursday, October 18, between residents and Dawoodi Bohra MK (DBMK) – a religious group with around 60 members in Milton Keynes – who plan building a single storey structure on land near Wavendon Gate Primary School.
In a meeting with the councillor, DBMK insisted that it was not building a Mosque, the building will not have spires or loud speakers to call for prayers and the building will likely remain one storey tall, and be available for the whole community to enjoy.
Mr Barney said: “I was pleasantly surprised to find out that such a small organisation was so well prepared and informed.
“My meeting with DBMK was good to establish facts, meet some of its members and to sweep away some of the misconceptions.
“Some residents are concerned that a Mosque will be built and while I have had reassurances that this isn’t the case, this is the perfect opportunity to hear it from the Dawoodi Bohra themselves.
“I will be chairing the meeting and trying to give everyone an opportunity to speak.”
Next Thursday’s meeting is scheduled to take place at MK Snap in Walnut Tree, starting at 7pm.
