A mother in Alegria has chained her four mentally ill adult children for the past several years.
According to a report in Shorouk newspaper, the old woman has 11 children. Four among them were born mentally challenged – The oldest girl is 30 years old; the second girl 28 years; the third child 22 and the youngest 19 years of age.
Unable to control them as they grew older, the old mother resorted to the ultimate act of restraining them in a place by using iron chains.
The wooden doors of the house are all broken and the family claims the four children are to be blamed for that. With extreme strength, they manhandle neighbors and family members, says the old mother.
Similarly, they have big appetite and eat whatever they can find, including potato peels. When the mother settles to bake bread, she has to ensure the foursome is not nearby, else they eat raw flour before it is baked, she claims.
She has to be around round the clock at their service. They even refuse to wear clothes. They tear up their dress and chew on it, she adds.
They scream all the time and sleep exhausted when they are tired, says the old mother.
The mother says that she has not visited her parents for the last nine years because she cannot entrust these four adult children to anyone.
She is surviving on charity and good-willed neighbors.
