A visitor has claimed he was heavily drunk and doesn’t remember whether he flashed his middle finger at a guardsman while partying at the Irish Village.
Prosecutors accused the 24-year-old British suspect, LK, of public indecency and consuming alcohol.
The defendant admitted that he drank alcohol but denied the charge of flashing his middle finger in public when he appeared before the Dubai Misdemeanor Court on Tuesday.
“I do not remember what happened then,” LK told presiding Judge Wajdi Al Minyawi in court.
According to the accusation sheet, prosecutors accused the Briton of committing a lewd act in public by flashing his middle finger at a Palestinian guardsman when he was under the influence of alcohol at the drinking establishment in Al Garhoud.
The guardsman testified that the incident happened when his co-worker asked the defendant to leave the Irish Village because he was rowdy and was creating trouble.
“I overheard the suspect, who is a regular customer, screaming, and he insisted on picking a fight with my co-worker, who tried to dismiss LK from the venue, in July.
Surprisingly the suspect kicked me for unknown reasons. He also tried to beat me with his hand but I managed to restrain him. Then we called the police and informed them what happened because the suspect insisted on fighting. The defendant also abused me verbally and called me and my family bad names, he also cursed my co-worker,” claimed the guardsman.
Prosecution records said the defendant smelt of alcohol.
Records also said the guardsman waived his complaint against LK after the latter apologized to him.
Meanwhile the Briton claimed to prosecutors that he consumed six cans of beer when the incident happened. The defendant alleged that he did not remember any foul language he used with the guardsman because he was very drunk.
“I do not remember anything about the incident because I was under massive influence of alcohol, but I might have quarreled with someone at the place where I got arrested. I guess I cursed the guardsman because he kicked me out of the Irish Village and he doesn’t like me or any of my friends,” claimed the Briton.
The defendant will produce his written defence when the court reconvenes on December 11.
