A prayer room for Muslim shoppers opened Tuesday in an outlet mall in Chitose, Hokkaido, to serve an increasing number of tourists from countries such as Malaysia and Indonesia.

About 300 Muslims living in Japan staged a protest in Tokyo Friday over an unfinished film produced in California that mocks the Prophet Muhammad.
